Hosted applications, also known as Internet-based application or web-based application are software applications where the software resides on servers that are accessed through the Internet instead of the more traditional software that is installed on either a local server or on individual PCs.

An example of a hosted application would be a companies ERP solution where many individuals within the company's network and across the internet can log into the software to access company data.
 
Hosted Services   Hosted Model
Hosted services are very similar to hosted applications in that they are both Internet-based applications that are accessed through the Internet. The difference is that hosted services typically employ ecommerce technology. Customers pay a fee to access the products or services that the website promotes, usually on a recurring basis.

An example of a hosted service application would be an online magazine subscription. Clients enable an account by paying a predetermined amount with their credit card for a specific amount of time. The user then logs into the service with a username and password which directs the user to the website's paid content.
 
Non-Hosted Applications (Client/Server)   Client Server model
Non-Hosted applications, also known as client/Server applications are your common applications. Client-server applications utilize an application on the users desktop that access a database stored on a server within the companies own network. These applications are not accessible to the internet, however the database can be shared between multiple users within the companies own network.

An example of a client-server non-hosted application would be companies Accounts Payable/ Accounts receivable system.
